Virtual Dance Studio

Now, more than ever, it's important for us all to have normalcy and routine. The last thing we all want is for our family to be stagnant, isolated and immobile . We need them to be active, move, use their mind and still interact socially with their peers.

This is exactly what we'll be providing you with during the closure of our physical location!

Thanks to technology, we will be opening our DIGITAL DOORS and will be providing you with a LIVE ONLINE dance experience for your dancer to keep them moving, learning, interacting with their friends and having fun during this time.

Here are the IMPORTANT details you need to know about our online dance experience:

  • We will be conducting LIVE ONLINE classes via ZOOM from MONDAY 27TH APRIL until further notice in Term 2.
  • There will be a REVISED TIMETABLE which is located in the Tab
  • Classes will be 50 minutes long giving students and teachers doing multiple classes, time to log onto the next session.
  • There will only be 1 RAD Ballet lesson scheduled per Grade for the week. Ballet students must supplement this by doing 1 of the previously pre-recorded online lessons.
  • Tap Students will also need to supplement their scheduled Tap lessons with the pre-recorded Glenn Wood Tap syllabus lessons.
  • You will receive a link and password to be used for each lesson so it is important for you to be checking your emails and our Facebook Family page regularly.
  • You will receive a more detailed email on 'HOW TO' on your enrolment.

And now for the important questions Options and Costs! I have spent quite a bit of time on this one, trying to figure out how to keep the studio afloat, teachers in jobs and what is reasonable for our families. I understand that most of us are in very different financial positions during this time and I hope we can support you here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How much space will my child need to dance?

A. We know not everyone has ample space at home, so we are catering for those who have the smallest spaces. A 3 x 3 metre space would be ideal but 2 x 3 is also doable. Some families have moved furniture or think about the garage as a converted space if you have the room?

Q. What surface is best to dance on?

A. We all have our idea of what a dance floor should be. At home, it is a different story. Carpet, floor boards or tiles are fine, as long as it is even and there are no trip hazards (rugs, toys etc) or sharp corners. Tap dancers should invest in a small tap board. You can order online, or simply use a mason board from Bunnings! These boards are also great for pirouettes. Yoga mats are great for stretching and floor strengthening exercises. We are also aware of cost restraints, so don't worry if you cannot purchase tap boards or yoga mats, there is always plan B.

Q. Do we need a mirror?

A. A mirror is NOT necessary for participating in lessons. Its a great tool for self correction but not essential for classes.

Q. Do we have to wear the uniform specified for your classes?

A. We would love to see everyone still in their dance uniforms and appropriate footwear for lessons! We can still see every student and correct their techniques live online. This is hard to do when students are wearing bagging, loose fitting clothing. So where possible, we would like everyone to wear their studio uniforms with pride. Ballerinas, don't forget your buns!

Q. Do ballet & tap students need a barre? A. No need to go out and source a ballet barre. Students should have a chair, Kitchen bench or even the back of the couch available to use as their ballet barre.

Q. Can we use an Ipad to join or do we need a computer?

A. You can use any device to join in! Computer, tablet/Ipad or smart phone. Obviously, a larger screen is advisable for students so they can see clearly whilst dancing. You can even link to your TV if you have a smart TV or cable.

Q. It was hard to motivate my younger child to participate in the pre-recorded sessions. How will this be different?

A. Some younger students struggled to find the motivation to attend the pre-recorded sessions at home. Of course, the temptation to play instead is strong! The LIVE STREAMING CLASSES are very INTERACTIVE, where you can see your teacher and dance friends on the screen and they can see you!!! Being encouraged and praised by your teacher and accountable for your learning will be the only motivation needed!

Q. If there is only 1 lesson for each Ballet and Tap grade how will they meet the requirement for their exams?

A. Students will take Option 3 and have access to our Pre-recorded online lessons to supplement the second lesson. If students would like more encouragement, I am happy to critique videos sent to me of practices and other tasks will be set to ensure they keep up the practice. We will keep reassessing exams as the year unfolds.

Q. How do we enroll for Virtual Lessons?

A. We will send through a Virtual Studio enrollment form. It is ESSENTIAL that you complete this, OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE LESSONS as a link and password need to be used. Please try and do this prior to 27th April so you don't miss out! You will recieive your NEW VIRTUAL TIMETABLE and how to enroll tomorrow. Please note that some classes have been consolidated to minimize the schedule.

Q. How will we access the lesson?

A. Once you have enrolled for Term 2 Virtual Studio, you will recieve the link and password to your subscribed lessons and/or pre-recorded online content.

Q. Is it the same link and password every week?

A. Yes! It will remain the same for the remainder of the Term or until further notice.

Q. How will we be billed?

A. You will be billed monthly in advance via an invoice emailed to you. Payments should be made via direct deposit or PayPal only.

Q. If we paid for 2 Terms in Advance, where will this money go?

A. If you took advantage of our 2020 enrollment special, any credits for Term 2 will now be transferred to Term 3.

Q. We may have problems paying for dance due to loss of income, is there anything we can do?

A. We totally understand this could be a tough time for a large number of families. We have been really conscious of this when planning our new online costs, we can also offer you an EXTENDED PAYMENT PLAN where you can pay for 50% now and the other 50% can be filtered for payment through Terms 3 & 4.

Q. Can we still claim our Active or Creative Kids Vouchers?

A. At this stage, yes! You can still apply for and claim your active and creative kids vouchers with us. Simply send that through with your Virtual enrollment form and deduct $100 from your payment. I will keep you updated if the government makes any changes.

Q. Can we still do private lessons?

A. Yes! We are still running our private lessons and happy to make some room if you or your child would like some more focused one on one time.

Q. How long will our classes be?

A. To streamline our timetable and ensure that all students can change and login into the following lessons in time, ALL OF OUR LESSONS will be 50 minutes long.

Q. What online platform are you using and how do we use it?

A. We will be using ZOOM for all of our LIVE STREAMING lessons! Don't worry if you have never used it or you are not tech savvy, we got you covered!!! You will receive a DETAILED HANDBOOK on how to use Zoom, what settings and formats for the best vision and sound. We will have a PRE-CLASS TUTORIAL ON FRIDAY 24TH APRIL so everyone can set up for their new lessons to minimize the technical issues in the real lessons.

Q. Will Troupe competitions and performances go ahead this year?

A. The honest answer is....I don't know! None of the comps we have entered have been cancelled yet and some performances have already been transferred to September/October. We will keep forging ahead and worst case scenario, we will transfer routines to 2021. In this case, Troupe 1 off fees can be transferred to 2021.

Q. Troupe students love the social interaction Troupe brings, how can we combat this?

A. We can do a group Troupe chat! I'm happy to set up weekly zoom meetings for the individual troupe members to interact and have a good old chat. I will organise this for each troupe after assessing times that would suit each troupe.
